Let’s understand: the terms emigration and immigration refer to the processes of moving people to another country for permanent residence in it. Depending on which side of the border you look from, a person can be an immigrant or an emigrant.
If a Russian citizen left the country, then he becomes an emigrant for it, and if, on the contrary, he wants to enter Russia in order to settle on the territory of the Russian Federation, then such a person will be called an immigrant.
Thus, immigration means the entry into a country and the arrival of a person in a new territory, and emigration is the departure from the country for permanent residence or long-term residence.
What is migration?
The word “migration” comes from the Latin. migratio – relocation, movement.
Migration can be external, when a person crosses the border and leaves for another country, and internal, when it comes to territorial movement within the country, for example, from one region to another, from one district to another, etc., without crossing the state border.
There are also several types of migration:
- permanent migration (place of residence changes irrevocably);
- temporary migration (moving for a certain period);
- pendulum migration (short-term regular journeys from one point (place of residence) to another – to work or study and back.
- seasonal migration (moving takes a specific period of time, for example, the harvest period).
